Boredom. Boredom. I am not a fan of that word but then again, who is? I hardly get bored especially when I am at home and for some funny reason, I get bored when I am outside than when I am in the comfort of my own home but I know that is not the case for some people. With what’s going on around the world now and with many people staying at home I have realised that a lot of people are bored to death. That is why I am writing this article and giving you 9 things you can do to cure your boredom while you are at home (These tips don’t involve making TikTok videos).
1. READ A BOOK

I would forever be an advocate for reading books because I believe that reading is a great way to escape whatever is going on around you and enter a new world entirely especially if it is fiction and there is no way you can get bored if you are sucked in a book. No way. When you are stuck at home, reading a book is a great way to pass time.

2. CALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS

You know that aunt that you have been procrastinating on reaching out to? Well, you can call her and check up on her as well as other people you have not spoken to in a long time. There was a certain day I was bored and I decided to go through my contact list and call people that I had not reached out to in a long time. It is a great way to spend your time and also show your loved ones that you are thinking about them and you care for them.

3. DO A HOUSE CHORE

There is always one chore or the other to do at home whether it is washing the dishes or cleaning the toilet or rearranging your room, one thing I know is that there is always work to be done. You can spice things up by grabbing your phone and turning on your favourite podcast or music playlist and listen to music while you work.
4. HOBBIES

We live in a world where hobbies are monetized so we can say that hobbies are fading out because if your hobby is your source of income it can easily become work and not what you derive pleasure from. I believe that everyone should have at least one hobby that they do not make money from but derive pleasure from it whether it is sewing, drawing, and reading.

Doing what you love is a great way to replace boredom with pleasure.

5. WATCH A YOU TUBE CHANNEL, LISTEN TO A PODCAST OR READ A BLOG

This is my favorite form of entertainment. I am what my friends like to call a ‘YouTube addict’ and there are many YouTube channels I love watching during my spare time and it is hard to get bored when you are binging on your favorite podcast, YouTube videos and blogs.

6. WATCH YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE WITH YOUR FAMILY

I love watching movies with my family especially movies I love. It is one thing to watch a movie by yourself but when you are watching a movie you have watched before with your family members, it is a different experience because of the side comments and jokes they might make and there is just something special and cozy about watching a movie with the people you love in the comfort of your own home.

7. JOURNAL

Writing down your emotions and experiences is the best way to have a clear mind and journaling helps you do that. Journaling is also a great way to occupy yourself and discover more about yourself. Self-discovery is very important and staying at home might be a sign that you should use the opportunity to explore and know more about yourself than you currently do. It can be a fun and insightful exercise and if you don’t know where to start from, there are lots of wonderful journaling prompts online.

8. START AND FINISH THAT PROJECT

There is always that one thing you have wanted to do in a long time. Whether it is starting a podcast, YouTube channel or blog or an art page, whatever it is, when you are at home you can always start or finish a project that you have abandoned.

9. SLEEP

There is nothing wrong with sleeping when you are bored. There are lots of benefits of sleep and if you feel that you have nothing to do or you don’t feel like doing anything, sleeping is a great way to relax, after all, you don’t always have to be busy whenever you are at home. Rest is good too.

Do you have any more tips on what activities one can engage in when bored at home? Let me know in the comment section below.
